Skiing in Grindelwald pt 1

What an excellent holiday we had in Grindelwald last week. The skiing was fantastic due to new snow and a vast ski area, the hotel was great, the food superb, and there were various other entertaining activities which I’ll blog about shortly.

Day one was pretty cold – something like minus 14 Centergrade at the top of the mountain. The first area we skiied was appropriately called First Flieger, though pronounced ‘fearst’. This is the area to the east of Grindelwald.

Day two was sunny, but still cold, especially in the afternoon.  We skiied the Kleine Scheidegg area.

Day three was sunny, but cold.  At the top of Schilthorn is was minus 25 Centegrade.  We caught the bus and two trains to Murren, and skiied in the Murren-Schilthorn area, along with the Crystal reps and some other guests.

  1. Minus twenty five degrees! What kind of holiday is that? Hotboy

  2. Hi Hotboy. The top of Schilthorn is 2970 metres – It’s where they filmed ‘On her majesty’s secret service’. You wear thermals, then a cotton layer, then a warm fleece, then a scarf, then a ski jacket, and a hat, and goggles, and salopettes. So the only bit that feels cold is the nose.

  3. What! For the price of the clothes you could have spent a fortnight in Butlins! Hotboy

  4. Hi Hotboy. Do they have skiing at Butlins?
