I selected the Songtsam Meili Hotel as the final destination of our trip and the highlight of the holiday. It didn’t disappoint! It really is a very special place, high up in the mountains about six hours north of Shangri-La, in its own valley above the road from Zhongdian to Diqing.
We were very warmly welcomed by the staff.
As the hotel hasn’t been open for very long, and in fact is closed during winter, some of them were a bit shy.
The hotel is gorgeous! And what a view!
In the evenings, when you’re having dinner, they prepare a fire in your room.
We were the first to arrive in the impressive dining room.
The food was excellent, and they kept bringing out dishes until I could hardly fit them all into a photo.
I can’t recommend this hotel more highly. If you’re in the area, make sure you stay at the Songtsam Meili. No wonder it is in the Tatler 2012 Travel Guide as one of the 101 favourite hotels from around the world.

I’ve never seen a view to match that one!
The panning is very smooth. A fancy tripod, or image stabilization?
YouTube can stabilize them. I forgot to do that with the first one, but it has been done now.
