From a place called Potes, in the Valley of Liébana, we cycled up a steep hill to the Monasterio de Santo Toribio. Inside is supposed to be a relic of the True Cross. I missed seeing it because after the steep bike ride I needed a ciggie, and the place was closed by the time I’d finished. Lindsey went inside, however, and thought that she saw it.
Several hermits used to live around the monastery. For some reason, withdrawing from the world and living by the Benedictine rule was very popular in this area for centuries.

From Potes, the next day we travelled on to a place called Poo, which seemed quite appropriate at the time.
