We ran into two different celebrations in the one day. The first one was in Cangas de Onis, where we’d stopped to photograph the medieval bridge and buy some bread.
There was a procession featuring dancers and others in various traditional outfits, followed by an open-air concert.
I have no idea what the festival was about. Then, in the evening at San Vicente de la Barquera there was another celebration. The streets were closed whilst a statue was carried through the town and onto one of the fishing boats, which then sailed out to sea and came back again after half an hour. I think they were blessing the new fishing season.
