What a lot of weather we had on our recent summer holidays – some days were cold and cloudy, then there were a couple of nice days, then it got colder again, and then it snowed! Then it got wet and very windy, and finally there were three days of partial sunshine.
We stayed one night near Fort William, and the next at Morvich, near Shiel Bridge.
From Morvich, on one of the nice days, we cycled round to Ratagan for the view towards the Five Sisters of Kintail, and then continued up the south side of Loch Duich until we reached Totaig. We left the bikes and hiked half a mile along the track west to look at the Iron Age broch known as Caistel Grugaig.
Though a ruin, the broch is impressive, with a triangular lintel above the main entrance, and a passage between the outer and inner walls.
If you walk a further half mile beyond the broch, you are rewarded with a super view over Glas Eilean towards the Skye Bridge.
