What a fantastic meal we had at Blackfriars last night.
The restaurant & bar is situated near the bottom of Blackfriars Street, between the Royal Mile and the Cowgate, so it has quite a central location, and it was convenient for finding a taxi afterwards. Black Bo’s occupied the premises for many years, but now the business is run by Georgie Binder and Andrew Macdonald, and it gets rave reviews on TripAdvisor. I’m not surprised.
Our table of six shared Mallorcan suckling pig – the first time I’ve tried this dish. The whole roast pig is served with potatoes, dumpling rolls, kale, apple sauce and mustard.
OK, so because of the nature of the dish and how it is served, you do find yourself thinking for a moment about what it is that you’re eating, but once you tuck in, it is so good. I tried the tongue, which was also great.
After the meal, Simon told me how much effort goes into sourcing the best ingredients.
If you’re in town, try this restaurant!
