To the top left in the above photo is Mt Gemi, mentioned in my last post. This photo was taken from the Mountain Paradise Lodge, near Biakpa, where we had a nice, if slightly tardy, lunch.
In the top photo it doesn’t look particularly hot. It was about 28 degrees centigrade, and the half-mile walk along the road from the lodge to the start of the bush trek up the Kulugu River was fine. But as soon as we stepped into the undergrowth I started to sweat. It was fairly rough going, and we were relieved that the girl from the hotel stayed with us, as without her we would surely have got lost.
The final bit down to the waterfall would have involved abseiling the last twenty feet, which we didn’t feel confident enough to attempt. We could have got down, but we weren’t sure about getting back up. A tougher walk than Mt Qua Qua, in March of this year.
