Three years ago, Gavin fixed the Rotator Cuff Tear in my left shoulder. For the past few months I’ve had a similar problem with my right shoulder, though the muscle concerned is different from the one that caused a problem with my left shoulder. This time, there was pain when I tried to put on a jacket or take off a T-shirt, but other movements were OK – in fact there was no problem with kayaking.
I tried the exercises that Gavin gave me last time, but because it was a different muscle this time, they didn’t work, so it was back to the NHS physiotherapists after calling the relevant NHS Helpline and waiting a few weeks.
The physios are really good. This time it was Susan, who listened whilst I described the problem, then gave me a series of exercises. Within a couple of days I could tell that the exercises were beginning to work, so I stuck at them. Susan gave me more exercises on subsequent appointments, finishing with some weight work to build up strength in the shoulder. She also helped me with the knee problem I’ve had for a few weeks.
I’d say that the shoulder is now 85% fixed, and I just need to keep up the exercises for a while.
I’m impressed with the NHS Physiotherapy service.
