I cycled to South Queensferry, to check on the progress of the new bridge (seen above). There and back, plus a side-trip to Lidl, added up to 36 miles, so I’m getting reasonably fit.
At South Queensferry I went into a cafe/bar and sat at a table. There were many staff flapping about, and one of them told me politely that my table had been reserved, so could I sit somewhere else, which I did. After about ten minutes someone asked me what I wanted to drink, and I said a black coffee. After another five minutes he came back and asked, “Has no-one served you your coffee yet?” In answer I looked in front of me at the empty table. Another five minutes and my coffee appeared. I would have ordered something to eat as well, but there were no menus or any other indication of what was available, and no-one asked me if I wanted to eat, although I could see others with food.
This was in a fairly small place, with about four front-of-room waitresses and two supervisors.
