A great new alerting feature has been added to JournalTOCs the free Tables of Contents service for scholarly journals. This will help researchers and academics to keep current with new scholarly publications, because everything found will always be in the most recent issues of the 14,000 journals covered.
As well as being able to search for the latest Table of Contents (TOCs) for more than 14,000 journals collected from over 600 top publishers, and being able to search within those TOCs for the latest scholarly articles on topics of interest, you can now also get email alerts when new issues are published in one of your favourite journals. No need to register with multiple publishers to get TOC alerts in your inbox.
To receive email alerts, first you need to register (free) with JournalTOCs. Then search for, and select TOCs for the journals you want to keep up to date with. Then click on Activate email alerts at the bottom of your list of MyTOCs. Now you can keep completely up to date with the latest journal articles, and be sent an email each time one of them publishes a new issue.
At JournalTOCs you can:
- Find more than 14,000 scholarly journal Table of Contents (TOCs) from over 600 publishers.
- View the latest TOC for each journal.
- Link to the full text of over 400,000 articles (where institutional or personal subscription allows).
- Search within those 400,000 articles by keyword.
- Select and save journal titles to view future TOCs
- Be alerted by email when a new TOC is published.
- Export TOC feeds to popular feedreaders.
More content is being added continuously to JournalTOCs.

STM journal publishing is a $5 billion industry, with a potential audience of 5.5 million researchers globally. The latest published articles are the cream on this publishing cake, and it is important for publishers, researchers and authors to make sure that current content is discovered and exploited soon after publication. JournalTOCs makes this possible by aggregating TOC RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds produced by journal publishers.
The heaviest users of JournalTOCs, so far, are librarians, as reported in this blog post which shows that the top MyTOCs journals are all library-related. Librarians obviously see the benefits of using JournalTOCs. Now, please help spread the word about JournalTOCs to researchers and academics – tell your friends about this great free service!
JournalTOCs is an initiative of the ICBL (Heriot-Watt University)
There is no table of contents in Ancient Futures by John McKenzie, available on Kindle Amazon for 86p. There is, however, a fantastic librarian character and a great big library is dead important in the plot! Hotboy
rest assured, if I had friends I would tell them all about this great free service.
